My family loves Chinese Food! We used to eat at Chinese Buffets often, but when we realized the guys had a gluten sensitivity, that had to end. They were so disappointed! To soften the blow, I look for gluten-free Chinese recipes. I found a great recipe at Confessions of a Homeschooler for Mongolian Beef and Broccoli. My family LOVED it!!!! Here is how I prepared it.
Mongolian Beef and Broccoli
I sliced the steak into thin strips, put it into a bowl and coated it with a 1/4 cup cornstarch. It needed to set for 10 minutes, so I took that time to prepare the sauce.

I heated 2 TBSP Canola Oil in a skillet, added 2 TBSP minced garlic, 1 TSP ground ginger and let sizzle for 30 seconds. I then added 1/2 cup soy sauce and 1 cup light brown sugar. After the sauce came to a boil, I let it simmer for 2 minutes before pouring it into a bowl and setting it aside.
Mongolian Beef and Broccoli Steak Strips Browning |
I heated 1/2 cup of Canola Oil in a skillet on medium-high heat and browned the cornstarch coated steak strips. I then drained them on a paper towel. I cleaned out the pan before adding the steak back to the pan to fry for another 2 minutes. While the steak was browning, I steamed broccoli florets until tender crisp.

I added the sauce to the steak strips and heated for one minute. I then added the broccoli and heated for another minute before removing from heat. I served it over rice.
