Toddler School - Week 10 - More Color

Baby Jay is doing so well with Toddler School. It's really about fun learning that we do together. She loves to be read to and played with. One issue that we have sometimes is that she wants my full attention when I have to do other things like cook or wash dishes. I try to include her in everything I do, but she isn't always interested in my activity. When I read about Busy Bags, the light bulb went off. That would be perfect! I went to Pinterest, of course, and found a bunch of ideas that I want to try. You can check out my Toddler School Pinterest board here. The first busy bag activity that I made is a Pipe Cleaner Can. Baby Jay found it fascinating. She played for 20 minutes!

To make this Pipe Cleaner Can we had to eat Pringles. It was such a hardship! Ha! I wrapped the empty Pringles can in construction paper. I punched holes in the lid with a hole puncher. I cut out labels and punched holes in them before sticking them over the holes on the lid. I then colored the labels with different colored markers that matched the pipe cleaners I bought. We did have to trim off a few inches from each pipe cleaner to make them fit in the can and fold down the ends so she wouldn't get hurt. We keep the pipe cleaners stored in the can for future use. The great thing about this busy bag activity is that it helps her learn the colors, to match them, and improves her fine motor control.

I let her decorate the can with Washable Markers. Markers are another favorite activity. These Crayola Ultra Clean Washable Markers are the best to use because they wash off so easily. She likes to paint her fingernails and hands and arms and face. You get the idea.

We also colored with crayons this week.

One of her favorite parts of this activity, though, was the crayon bag. She loved unzipping and zipping, taking the crayons out and putting them back in.

Toddler School has been such a great way for me to enjoy this stage in Baby Jay's life. I know from experience that time goes by so fast. I would to hear your ideas about fun activities to do with toddlers!
