I work part-time at our local library. I'm blessed enough to be our Children's Librarian. We have Story Time every week for preschoolers and young elementary home school kids like Jay. Once a year, we replace the used crayons with brand new ones. We wondered what to do with all the old ones. We decided to make new ones! Want to do this for yourself? Read on!
This is how I made new crayons out of old crayons.
Supplies Needed:
Used Crayons, Peeled
Several 15oz Vegetable Cans, Cleaned with Labels Removed
Pot of Water
Molds for New Crayon Shapes - I used silicon ice trays
Bend can slightly on one side to make a pour spout. Add crayons to can. Put can in a pot of water. As the water heats up, the crayons melt. Stir occasionally.

Once crayons are completely melted, pour them into the molds of your choice. Let cool until solid.

Once solid, remove from molds and let cool completely on cooling rack.

Let the kids have fun mixing colors. We did this for Christmas last year and Halloween this year. My kids really enjoyed helping me. The Story Time kids at the Library thought they were awesome!
